As United Methodists, we have come to understand that salvation is both an event and a process! As an event, salvation occurs when, by grace through faith in Christ, we realise our sinful condition and our inability to save ourselves. The Holy Spirit of God is the agent of salvation, which occurs through what we know as the New Birth (See the gospel of John, chapters 1 and 3). Evidence of this experience include a sincere sorrow for our sins, an abiding desire to be forgiven for them, and a committment of trust in Jesus Christ, alone, in His Life, Death and Resurrection.
The step which should follow salvation is water baptism. Baptism puts us into the earthly family which God created for His children to learn, serve and grow spiritually we call the church! We urge you to start attending a loving, serving, Christ honoring and Bible teaching church this Sunday!
Speaking of the New Birth many people throughout the years have found such an experience by reading from the Epistle called Romans in the New Testament. A brief and helpful sketch of the book is "The Romans Road". This is a "walk" through the letter highlighting certain verses or passages which help light and guide the way to God through Jesus Christ in the Church.
"As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one."
~Romans 3:10~
"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."
~Romans 3:23~
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned."
~Romans 5:12~
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
~Romans 6:23~
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
~Romans 5:8~
